Description

Star Anise Oil - Concentrated Food Grade Essential Oil

  • Pure Essential Food Grade Oil from the Star Anise Plant
  • Adds Licorice-Like Flavor & Aroma to Baking, Cooking, and Beverages
  • Perfect for Sweet or Savory Dishes
  • 18-Month Shelf Life When Stored in Cool, Dry Location

Our star anise oil is the essential oil made from the star-shaped fruit of the Illicium Verum tree. Rich in anethole, this ingredient adds a licorice-like scent and taste to baked goods, candy, or beverages. Star anise oil for baking is used to flavor both sweet and savory foods. The taste of licorice is a traditional ingredient in biscotti, springerle, and pizzelle cookies, as well as candy. star anise oil, sometimes called anise star essential oil, is also prevalent in Chinese and Japanese dishes, where it adds a depth of flavor as well as sweetness. This natural food grade essential oil is also used when curing meats such as pepperoni or sausage.

Because of the high anethole content, star anise essential oil can crystalize at cool temperatures (below 59 degrees F./15 degrees C.). If this happens, simply warm the star anise oil until it is liquefied and shake.

This item is filled in fluid ounces and not by weight

    Anise Oil

Posted by Perry on Dec 21st 2020

So much stronger than Anise extract. I used 1/4 the amount of Anise extract and was so overpowered that I needed to increase my recipe by 50% to tone down the Anise. I now use 1.5 teaspoons of Anise Oil instead of 4 tablespoons of Anise extract for my pizzelle recipe.

    Pure Anise Oil

My mother (an 89 year old Italian) has had a problem finding "good anise oil" for her biscotti. It's a shame, she never had this problem a decade or more ago. Used to be, you bought Anise Oil and could rely on the results. Now, it's like going to vegas. Put your money down and hope you get a win! geesh ps: this one was not a winner

    Anise Oil

Posted by Nancy Castiglione on May 23rd 2019

18 months ago I ordered the 8oz Pure Anise Oil and was so excited to have great quality for my baking - which all the Italian fam & friends crave. I just ordered the same exact product - through Amazon and it arrived in a plastic bottle and an inferior cap that didn't seal as perfect as the my first bottle. The aroma was different. I had less than a teaspoon in my first jar, so I poured the new into the old glass bottle. I just mixed my first dough using the new oil and it is weird ! It is not pure Anise Oil - which I have been baking with for 60 years. What have you done to the real thing??? I will bake this batch of biscotti - but fear it is a waste. Now what?

Tastes okay but has a distinct chemical smell

Posted by D Berkemeier on May 16th 2019

While we use and love many of the Olive Nation oils and extracts, we will not be using the anise oil again. We purchased a pint bottle and used some over the holidays but it solidified in storage during the winter. When we heated it (per instructions) to get rid of the crystals, we noticed a very strong chemical smell to the oil. Thinking maybe it had somehow absorbed a chemical from the plastic bottle, we ordered another 4 ounce bottle and also a 4 ounce bottle from LorAnn. The bottle from Olive Nation came with the same strong, off-putting chemical smell but the bottle from the other company was just the expected sweet anise smell with no chemical odor at all. The Olive nation anise oil tastes okay in cookies but does leave a bit of bitter aftertaste. The other brand does not have that aftertaste.

I had used a couple of other extracts, but there was no comparison to the pure anise oil that I purchased from your company . I will be buying flavorings from you. Thank you!

    Amazing Taste

Posted by Felicia on Aug 9th 2018

I purchased your Anise Oil at first to use as a Homeopathic Remedy for IBS that my mother had passed down to me. It is so pure- nothing but the Anise itself- and fresh I would think she is boiling down the Anise herself like she would do when I was a child. It would take her hours to boil it down and be left with a concentrated syrup. Then, my daughter who absolutely loves to bake started to use it in her cakes and cookies. We have never tasted an Anise-based dessert that has tasted like the ones she make with your Anise Oil. We definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to taste an Anise Oil like no other they will ever taste.
