What Is Rose Flower Water?
Rose flower waters are pure distillations from rose petals. Rose water has been a popular flavoring especially in the cuisines of North Africa and the Middle East, A few drops is all that is needed to completely change the taste profile of custards, rice puddings, ice cream, sugar syrups and added to a variety of fruit salads. It is also a traditional ingredient in many sweet Middle Eastern pastries. Used sparingly rose water adds a wonderful fragrance to many dishes.
Add a splash of rosewater to a creamy tapioca or rice pudding and sprinkle with chopped pistachios to make a simple dessert elegant. Rose flower water also marries well with most ricotta cheese desserts and Italian sponge cakes, cookies and biscuits. The next time you dollop creme fraiche over your dessert, add a teaspoon of rose flower water beforehand. Sprinkle a few drops into ice water for an amazing transformation. Add some saffron threads and a couple of drops of rose water. A fantastic combination! It can also be used to flavor baklava and other filo desserts. Used widely in the Middle East especially to flavor baklava and sherbets as well as Turkish delight candies. Rose flower water is produced by water distillation from rose flowers.
Rose Flower Water Adds an Allure
Rose water has a long and interesting culinary history dating back to the middle ages. This flavoring agent is used for a wide variety of desserts and pastries in Europe as well as the Middle East, India and North Africa. Rose flower water has the full, rounded fragrance of fresh roses. Too much is overpowering, but a small amount adds the alluring fragrance of one of the world's truly great flowers to your cooking. If you are looking for uses for this very distinctive flavoring, there are many traditional recipes, the vast majority of which are for sweets. Baklava from Turkey wouldn't be the same without it. Rice pudding with cardamom is another favorite. You can also substitute rose water for vanilla in cupcakes and puddings. Morocco's classic carrot salad demands a bit of rose water. Rose flower water mixed with a little Riesling is great sprinkled on fruits such as strawberries, sliced melon, plums, or peaches. Don't confuse rose water with rose syrup, which usually has added sugar that will change your recipes and not necessarily for the better.
