OliveNation Red Quinoa, like the black and white varieties is one of the most nutritious grains. It is naturally gluten free, a complete protein source and very high in soluble fiber. Red Quinoa is has all nine essential amino acids, as well as calcium and iron.
Pronounced ‘keen-wah’, red quinoa has a fluffy consistency when cooked and a light nutty flavor. It is a tasty substitute for rice or couscous. Red quinoa can be served as an entree or combined with zucchini, feta cheese, tomatoes and olive oil to make a fabulous Mediterranean salad. Red quinoa cooks quickly and can be served warm as a breakfast cereal with fruit or chilled as a side dish along with vegetables.
How to Prepare Red Quinoa
Rinse the quinoa to remove any saponins, a naturally occurring bitter coating. Boil 2 cups of water or stock, then add 1 cup of quinoa. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 - 20 minutes. It is done when the grain pops and you see a ‘curly tail’.
