Description

Our dried sulfite-free tomatoes from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia are picked at the peak of freshness to extract the maximum amount of sugar and sweet robust flavor. After sorting and careful washing, they are slowly dried. When you receive them they will be packaged in easy-to-store freezer bags. Note: We strongly urge that you store your sulfite-free tomatoes either in the refrigerator or freezer since they will darken over time due to the fact that there are no sulfites to preserve the color. The darkening of the tomatoes does not affect the taste or flavor. Simply reconstitute the tomatoes in your favorite stock, wine, or warm water for about 30 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft and pliable. Do not discard the soaking liquid. Add it to your recipe. If your recipe contains a lot of liquid such as a soup or stew, there is no need to reconstitute. Simply add them to your recipe.

Salt has not been added to these tomatoes. However, tomatoes contain natural salt. During the drying process, the natural saltiness becomes much more pronounced.

    Waaay too salty now

Posted by Jacqueline on Jan 4th 2018

I’ve been enjoying unsulphered sun-dried tomatoes from Olive Nation for many years. They were previously very delicious. However, the last package was so salty that the tomatoes were inedible. Since this saltiness hadn’t been present before, I called OliveNation to ask if the supplier had changed but didn’t get a reply. The description has now been expanded to state something like these are not salted & only contain naturally-occurring salts. If so, these tomatoes must have been grown in a salt mine.

    Salty taste

Posted by Rose on Sep 20th 2016

I was very happy to found what I t hought was
a sulfite and salt-free product, but on opening
the pakcage, it tastes far too salty to be salt-free.
They taste fine, but I am afraid to trust these on
my low sodium diet. I normally eat these like
candy, but I don't feel free to do that with these.

    Great value and taste

Posted by Yulien on Jul 7th 2016

I use these sun dried tomatoes in various dishes, including pasta and stir-fries. They taste great! They are also just dry enough to be very easy to work with. I'm very pleased with them.

These are great, wish they were cheaper.

These are great, but I think the price has gone up quite a bit since I started using them. No complaints. I use them a lot in bread.

    Fantastic product

I have to limit my salt for health reasons. These are the only salt free sun dried I've found. They help bring flavor to soups, stews, veggies, just about anything you use them on. This was my second order.

I've bought the halves and julienne style and both work well in many recipes. Great flavor, fast shipping, I'll buy again.

Just getting into enjoying these fully--I microwaved for 15 seconds in moist paper towel and they moistened right up which made them REALLY good on salads!
