OliveNation Fennel Seeds - Fennel comes from the Mediterranean Foeniculum vulgare plant, an herb in the parsley family. The bulb and leaves of the plant are often cooked and served as a vegetable. The small yellowish-brown, aromatic seeds are dried and used as a spice in Middle Eastern, Indian and other cuisines.
With a sweet licorice-like flavor, similar to anise, fennel seeds are an excellent complement to pork and other savory meat dishes. They are a key ingredient in making homemade Italian sausage, roasted pork loin and grilled salmon. You can also add them to your favorite soups, stews and tomato sauce recipes. Try making Fennel Soda Bread or a savory focaccia bread seasoned with fennel seeds, rosemary, sea salt and served with olive oil for dipping.
How to Make Fennel Seed Tea
Use fennel seeds to make a soothing tea that aids after dinner digestion. Steep 1 teaspoon each of fennel seeds, dried ginger, Moroccan Peppperming Tea and chamomile leaves in 8 ounces of water for 10 minutes. Stain and sweeten with honey or sugar.
