While you may not immediately think of Turkey for your olive oil, we suggest you try a bottle of Laleli Extra-Virgin Oil. Laleli is located near the town of Taylieli in the area of Ayvalik along the Aegean, the prime olive oil producing region in Turkey. Dr. Yahya Laleli—a John Hopkins-trained physician—is a stickler for authenticity, taste and production hygiene. He reminds us of Tuscan oil producers we know…only using perfect olives, hand-picking at night when the air and olives are cool, and cold-pressing them immediately at temperatures below 37 degrees centigrade He’s even bought olive presses and equipment from Italy and has had his oil tested by the Amministrazione Provinciale di Siena to verify that his single-estate oil meets Italian standards as extra-virgin oil!



Prescription for Good Taste and Good Health

Dr. Laleli is dedicated to the idea healthier living. He and his family process their oil under close scrutiny and control. They utilize their own food and environmental industrial analysis laboratory where they follow not only the antioxidant level (flavonoid concentration) of their production, but also measure acidity, peroxide and organoleptic characteristics together with the vitamin E levels. The end result is a healthy high-quality olive oil with a long shelf life and a tolerance for high cooking temperatures.

Laleli olive oils are produced with a minimum impact to the environment which is documented by the “Environment Impact Assessment (EIA)” Report (23 March 1999 date and 0271 license number) approved by the Turkish Ministry of Environment.
